    This big boy was out in a tank up to his belly in mid October. I thought it likely that he was injured or sick but after seeing him yesterday in good health and quite some distance from that tank I decided he must have decided that he just needed to cool off.

    That is a great buck but even better photograph!
    Yes, deer take to water very readily for a host of reasons and sometimes just to play. I have seen them dance and frolic in the water like little kids, just playing and splashing and having fun. And of course, they certainly take to water to avoid predators or cool down from fevers or infections as well.
